This is a recommendation to a  report by the well-known marketer, John Thornhill.

The report is hard-hitting and straight to the point, so much so that a few people may be upset at reading  some home truths!

I think it is an excellent article and more to the point a wake-up call for many of us.

However, if the title of the post is a problem for you here is an excerpt from the first page, with my underlining:

Wow! Did John just say that, is it true? Holy crap John, aren’t you supposed to tell me how to succeed online and become a success? Yet here you are telling me I?m doomed to fail, what?s that all about?
First of all it?s not all doom and gloom, but you have to understand that most people who try to make money online will fail, and not only that will probably have spent thousands of dollars on various programs in their quest for success.
In this report I am going to tell you what I believe are the main reasons people fail online and I?m going to give it to you straight, you may not like some of what you read but that?s the whole point.

I want you to get angry as you read. Hopefully this will help you avoid these pitfalls that most people face and hopefully you will learn what it takes to succeed online. So without further delay let’s get on with it

John has been around for a few years now and like many other internet marketers has come from a modest background but more to the point has succeeded through HARD WORK!

Apart from successful internet marketing, John Thornhill mentors clients, and does it in such a way as to turn newbies into internet marketers complete with their own product online.

Many of his students do go on on to be successful marketers themselves, as by the time they have finished with his mentoring, they have the knowledge and confidence to create their own blogs, their own products, take on affiliates – and so on, and basically function as  internet marketers.

Matt Wolfe, a very helpful internet marketer has created a comprehensive set of video tutorials.

It is a series of video tutorials that teach you how to set up a Wordpress Blog, how to get traffic to the blog, and how to make money with the blog!

The videos are so easy to follow as Matt explains in a “look over his shoulder” way.

I have been using them since I started creating my blog.

Since then Matt has added more and more videos, and I have to say I go back to them frequently when I am doing something new with my blog or working on getting more traffic.

The Wordpress Classroom

I heard that only a limited number of spots are going to be given out in the classroom.

Matt Wolfe, the teacher, tries to help the students on a one-on-one basis whenever they need help which is very powerful, so I think he is limiting it to 200 spots or something like that.

I think that things are changing very much so in internet marketing.

The day of the rip-off marketer is coming to an end – and not before time.

Also, so is the day of the BIG launch model that is recommended by every man and his dog!

Am I the only one who just switches off from these endless emails?

In my previous post http://dave-whittle.com/internet-marketing/alex-jeffreys-is-on-the-move-again-how-to-make-a-million-dollars-in-2010 I mentioned the new way that Alex Jeffreys intended to go.

Alex has always said that he is marketing with you not too you which really means he gives away a lot of free content – frequently with a back end, of course.

So, it was with interest that I came across this recent video (thank you Chris Farrell) which I thought was VERY interesting for internet marketers. A message not to be ignored!

Food for thought indeed!

Alex Jeffreys, well known marketer has mentioned in a previous post that he was giving up the Guru’s game.

http://dave-whittle.com/internet-marketing/alex-jeffreys-and-giving-up-the-gurus-game-triple-threat-affiliates.

What is he going to do instead we all ask.

Well, he has now revealed his new plans at  http://marketingwithyou.com/million-dollars-2010/ and they are interesting to say the least.

All he wants from the people who read this post is some input via the Comments and in return you will be invited to join him in his journey to make 1 million dollars in 2010.

How can you refuse? The cost is zero. Just go for it!

Apparently there is a security hole in Wordpress that allows hackers into your hosting account. To secure everything, you need to update to the latest version 2.8.6 of Wordpress immediately:

Here is a video from Youtube with a quick explanation followed by the Wordpress statement:

“WordPress 2.8.6 Security Release

Posted November 12, 2009 by Ryan Boren. Filed under Releases, Security.

2.8.6 fixes two security problems that can be exploited by registered, logged in users who have posting privileges.  If you have untrusted authors on your blog, upgrading to 2.8.6 is recommended.

The first problem is an XSS vulnerability in Press This discovered by Benjamin Flesch.  The second problem, discovered by Dawid Golunski, is an issue with sanitizing uploaded file names that can be exploited in certain Apache configurations. Thanks to Benjamin and Dawid for finding and reporting these.”

Why not do it now! And don’t forget to backup first.

This is a post made by Martin Avis of www.kickstartdaily.com which is one of the better, FREE honest newsletters out there .
This post makes a lot of sense to me to I thought I would put it up here

“There was a thread on the Warrior Forum recently where a guy was
selling his process for making money online. It cost $7. I was
amazed at the number of people who demanded proof before they
would consider ‘investing’ such a huge sum.

There were many nasty comments – coming pretty close to calling
the guy a fraud. Yet the people baying for blood hadn’t bought
his product. They didn’t know if be was a fraud or a saint, but
because he dared to offer them a money making strategy – and
wanted their money (a whole $7) in return – their daggers were in
his back. And his front.

As you may know I am a student of Alex Jeffrey’s Coaching.

There are plenty of active students on the members’ forum but in the last few weeks the forum has gone quiet, and further to that, people do not seem to be posting on their blogs quite so often.

I assumed that they were all away busy creating products, getting traffic, making money etc, and I wondered what my problem was, as I had more or less come to a halt.

There is always a reason of course for inactivity, ranging from family business, illness, prior commitments or to just plain “hitting the wall”.

That was me last week – a lot of family commitments, a bit of illness and a complete lack of focus.

However, our mentor Alex Jeffreys has surfaced again after his wedding and honeymoon to tell us how unfocused he became, how many distractions he has had during that period – and so on.

Then he told us what he was doing about it

Since then other people have also mentioned their distractions, their illnesses, “hitting the wall” or just good old plain procrastination!

So, what is the point of all this?

Internet Marketing is for the most part a lonely business.

We sit hunched over our computers, in our own little worlds, possibly thinking when it all goes wrong that this only happens to me.
But now we find out that not only are we the only ones affected, but that even successful marketers can have similar problems, just like anybody else.

The point is, don’t beat yourself up for losing focus, having a spot of procrastination, having to commit to your families but just get past it, take a break, have that family time, or whatever is best for you, and then get going again. This is not a race.

Success is about attitude.

There are basically two types of people in this business.
First there are the ones who cave in under pressure and eventually just give up, and then there are those that pick themselves up every time it all goes wrong and just get going again – and again.

These are the successful marketers.

So, take action. Give it your best effort. Keep chipping away and make progress bit by bit.
You are not alone and if you are stuck – ask for help! Get life back on track!

You do not need to be a member of the Alex Jeffrey’s Coaching Forum to do this. You can ask for help in many of the online forums relating to your niche or the Warrior Forum where you will always find someone to help.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

One of the great time wasters in internet marketing is keeping track of sites that you like such as blogs, newspapers and so on.

It is generally assumed that everybody knows what an RSS feed is but when you click on the RSS logo on many sites nothing really happens, as it has not been “activated”.

So what is RSS?

feed-icon-14x14

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication (some say it is Rich Site Summary).

Originally it was necessary to bookmark sites on your  browser and then come back and check them at intervals to see if anything had been added.

Obviously if you are tracking many sites, for example, the sites of a forum, it can be a lot of work and very time consuming.

RSS actually reverses that by telling you when there are any updates from your chosen sites by sending the updates to one specific place where you can read them  at your convenience.

” This has made it really easy to not only publish regular updates to web-based content, but also keep track of a large number of your favorite websites or blogs, without having to remember to check each site manually or clutter your email inbox.

You can now streamline your online experience by subscribing to specific content feeds and aggregating this information in one place to be read when you’re ready.” Feedburner

Last Thursday was the latest (4th) of the Alex Jeffreys modules which was about Social Media and how to drive traffic to your blog.

Start time for me is at midnight and to make things a little more interesting we were out in the forest having a weekend family gathering (compulsory!).
So, a bit behind at the moment  but the boss said no computer business this last weekend (you know how it is).

However, with the help of my old laptop and the G3 “dongle”, I managed to make contact over the high trees and join the Live Coaching call.

And I am very glad I did as the content of this call from Alex was first class.

This call was all about getting traffic using Social Media.

As we all know no traffic means no list and no list means no business, so this was definitely worth listening to.

First point made was that blogs do attract Traffic.

Suggested ways to build traffic are :-

  • Show an interest in people
  • tell them what you are doing
  • tell people how to do it
  • provide good content
  • leave comments on other blogs
  • provide value on other peoples’ blogs and get some of their traffi
  • JVs
  • get involved with Twitter
  • use Youtube
  • review other blogs.

Alex used the analogy of oil rigs and fish. Man made structures(oil rigs) attract small fish, which in turn attract bigger fish, which also attract…………….and so o

This was used to explain that traffic building starts small and builds up over time.

This is started by taking a look at other blogs in your niche and making VALUE comments. By adding your signature to your comments, which should include a link to your blog, you will also receive traffic in return, if your comments are VALUE COMMENTS.

You can also add comments to the “big blogs” as well but you must, yes you’ve got it, add VALUE otherwise your comment will just be deleted.

Alex Jeffreys third module centered around this question and why you should have a blog.

For the people that don’t know the word “blog” comes from the word weblog – as simple as that.

A blog is basically an online diary that is available on the web. Updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who has a blog is a “blogger.”

Blogs are usually updated daily using various software programs that allows people run their blog and update with very little, if any, technical knowledge.

Having got that out of the way we come to the “why”.

Blogging can be a great way to promote or market yourself, your business, product and service .

If you wish to become an internet marketer a blog is essential as blogging not only maintains your focus, it also makes you accountable to people and gives you instant feedback from the market.

Your first post will give you instant momentum in that market.

    What shall I blog about?

Blog about yourself, your plans, what you are doing now, give value advice and tips, talk about your online community, build your readership – and of course, build your list!

Always provide value. This way you can get feedback, and eventually, funnel traffic to your products.

Another piece of sound advice was to make a good effort with the “About” page by telling your readers about yourself, maybe adding a photo – in fact show the readers that there is a real human being behind all this.

I hope you find this helpful.
