As you may know I am a student of Alex Jeffrey’s Coaching.

There are plenty of active students on the members’ forum but in the last few weeks the forum has gone quiet, and further to that, people do not seem to be posting on their blogs quite so often.

I assumed that they were all away busy creating products, getting traffic, making money etc, and I wondered what my problem was, as I had more or less come to a halt.

There is always a reason of course for inactivity, ranging from family business, illness, prior commitments or to just plain “hitting the wall”.

That was me last week – a lot of family commitments, a bit of illness and a complete lack of focus.

However, our mentor Alex Jeffreys has surfaced again after his wedding and honeymoon to tell us how unfocused he became, how many distractions he has had during that period – and so on.

Then he told us what he was doing about it

Since then other people have also mentioned their distractions, their illnesses, “hitting the wall” or just good old plain procrastination!

So, what is the point of all this?

Internet Marketing is for the most part a lonely business.

We sit hunched over our computers, in our own little worlds, possibly thinking when it all goes wrong that this only happens to me.
But now we find out that not only are we the only ones affected, but that even successful marketers can have similar problems, just like anybody else.

The point is, don’t beat yourself up for losing focus, having a spot of procrastination, having to commit to your families but just get past it, take a break, have that family time, or whatever is best for you, and then get going again. This is not a race.

Success is about attitude.

There are basically two types of people in this business.
First there are the ones who cave in under pressure and eventually just give up, and then there are those that pick themselves up every time it all goes wrong and just get going again – and again.

These are the successful marketers.

So, take action. Give it your best effort. Keep chipping away and make progress bit by bit.
You are not alone and if you are stuck – ask for help! Get life back on track!

You do not need to be a member of the Alex Jeffrey’s Coaching Forum to do this. You can ask for help in many of the online forums relating to your niche or the Warrior Forum where you will always find someone to help.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

Gary Simpson aka The Gazzman threw down the gauntlet and challenged members of Alex Jeffreys Coaching to reveal 25 things about themselves when tagged by another member. I have been tagged so here goes….

1) I come from S.Devon, England and I was a war baby.
I now live in the middle of Sweden with my Swedish wife.
I have recently lived and worked in the Middle East for more than 20 years in various countries there – some good, some not so good.

2) My mother was a widow at age 28 and was left with 3 children plus one on the way (my youngest sister).I am the eldest and was 7 years old at the time. Times were tough but overall life was better in many ways then.

3) I left home at the age of 16 and went to sea as a navigation cadet with a Liverpool shipping company. We went to the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and down the W. Coast of S. America and I continued with this route more or less for 4 years.
Tales to tell! Then I went to other places.

4) I became a Grandfather (Grandpa) for the first time last Thursday! A boy Tom, 6lbs.71/2 ozs.(about 3 kilos). Mixed feelings – and now I feel really grown up :o )
Internet Marketing took a back seat lately.

5) I learned to scuba dive in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and dived in the Red Sea – absolute magic and it can’t get much better than that. Not so magical above the water though.

6) I have flown many hours, in many different aircraft, both civilian and military BUT I have never flown in a helicopter. How weird is that? An ambition.

7) I like good English bitter beer but these days my intake is limited (however been there, done that ).
Now, my idea of entertainment is good company, good food and good wine.

8) I like photography, golf and sailing. I don’t do enough of any of them at the moment – different priorities

9) I was brought up alongside the sea, lived in it, lived on it, worked with it, have a lot of respect for it and it is very important to me.
I miss it just now.

10) I have twice sailed in the Dubai – Muscat Race, through the Straits of Hormuz. Different!

11) When I was young I always wanted to be a pilot.
My first flight was in an Avro Anson WW2 aircraft. It shuddered, shaked a lot, and just about clawed its way into the sky.
I was in heaven!

12) I do not understand women even when I think I do. I have given up now and accept that they come from a different planet.
How can you save money by buying something in a sale you didn’t need? Don’t fight it, Dave!

13) I am a bit of a loner, mostly because of the way my life was/is, and tend to fly beneath the radar.
I realize this is not good for a would-be internet marketer, and I am working on it.
I am quite sociable when I have the chance.

14) Some memories are precious – I have camped way out in the desert, and also out in the forest here, and at night the stars are enormous and there is total silence.
Beautiful, and something that is becoming harder and harder to find in our overcrowded world.

15) After driving in the Middle East for many years I now tend to be very impatient with the slow (?) drivers here. My wife says I grow horns when I get in a car. I’m working on it!

16) I used to smoke but gave up over 20 years ago after my daughters told me it worried them.

17) I sometimes miss the place I came from but my siblings tell me that I dream of a place that no longer exists. How sad is that?

18) I am not a good dancer. Two left feet might describe me, although I appreciate good dancing and wish I could do it well.
Having spent quite a lot of time in S.America I can truthfully say nobody, but nobody, will ever dance Latin American quite like the natives!

19) I was a sprinter at school, and ran for the school but I cannot run cross country/long distance at all. The last time I did it I tripped, fell into a stream and the guys following used me as a stepping stone across the stream. I had a back covered in muddy footprints. I gave up cross country after that.

20) I have traveled the world and lived and worked in different countries all my life.
I have found that no matter where you are people all want the same thing – a nice job, a nice salary, a nice house, education for their children, freedom to get on with their life etc. What is going on?

21) I hate talking about myself.

22) Some of my favorite books:

Cider With Rosie by Laurie Lee – A time and place I can relate to written beautifully. I find his follow up books about Civil War Spain fascinating also.

The Last Grain Race by Eric Newby who was an apprentice on the last of the Windjammers.

The Riddle Of The Sands by Erskine Childers.

I also like most of the classics, “whodunnits” and thrillers.

23) Music – I have very catholic tastes, anything from traditional jazz to opera to rock to classics and so on. All depends on the mood.

I don’t think there is anything out there today to match Pink Floyd, Queen, etc

24) I am now the world’s greatest procrastinator. Probably comes from working in a pressure cooker most of my life. Not good for an internet marketer!

25) The last good film I saw was “Lord of The Rings”. I have read the book a number of times and the director was true to the book as much as possible. I also enjoyed the “how it was made” film. Brilliant work by the Kiwis!!

26) I forgot to do No. 25 until Vance Sova reminded me. So, I have to go one more.
Another ambition is to go with my wife to New Zealand, hire a camper van and just drive all round for a few months, visit some old friends and just enjoy!

Alex Jeffreys Coaching Forum is becoming quite a large forum and as students become more active it is difficult sometimes to keep up with it all whether it is forum posts or other students’ blog posts.

With regard to other students’ blog posts I have solved the problem by using the RSS Feeds on their blogs (see my previous post “What is RSS?”).

However there is a slight problem with that as a number of blogs (some very active) have not yet set up the RSS Feed for that blog.

For those that are not quite sure what to do I have created a small tutorial below which will show you how to set up your RSS feeds for Wordpress, Blogger and Typepad blogs.

Last Thursday was the latest (4th) of the Alex Jeffreys modules which was about Social Media and how to drive traffic to your blog.

Start time for me is at midnight and to make things a little more interesting we were out in the forest having a weekend family gathering (compulsory!).
So, a bit behind at the moment  but the boss said no computer business this last weekend (you know how it is).

However, with the help of my old laptop and the G3 “dongle”, I managed to make contact over the high trees and join the Live Coaching call.

And I am very glad I did as the content of this call from Alex was first class.

This call was all about getting traffic using Social Media.

As we all know no traffic means no list and no list means no business, so this was definitely worth listening to.

First point made was that blogs do attract Traffic.

Suggested ways to build traffic are :-

  • Show an interest in people
  • tell them what you are doing
  • tell people how to do it
  • provide good content
  • leave comments on other blogs
  • provide value on other peoples’ blogs and get some of their traffi
  • JVs
  • get involved with Twitter
  • use Youtube
  • review other blogs.

Alex used the analogy of oil rigs and fish. Man made structures(oil rigs) attract small fish, which in turn attract bigger fish, which also attract…………….and so o

This was used to explain that traffic building starts small and builds up over time.

This is started by taking a look at other blogs in your niche and making VALUE comments. By adding your signature to your comments, which should include a link to your blog, you will also receive traffic in return, if your comments are VALUE COMMENTS.

You can also add comments to the “big blogs” as well but you must, yes you’ve got it, add VALUE otherwise your comment will just be deleted.

Alex Jeffreys third module centered around this question and why you should have a blog.

For the people that don’t know the word “blog” comes from the word weblog – as simple as that.

A blog is basically an online diary that is available on the web. Updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who has a blog is a “blogger.”

Blogs are usually updated daily using various software programs that allows people run their blog and update with very little, if any, technical knowledge.

Having got that out of the way we come to the “why”.

Blogging can be a great way to promote or market yourself, your business, product and service .

If you wish to become an internet marketer a blog is essential as blogging not only maintains your focus, it also makes you accountable to people and gives you instant feedback from the market.

Your first post will give you instant momentum in that market.

    What shall I blog about?

Blog about yourself, your plans, what you are doing now, give value advice and tips, talk about your online community, build your readership – and of course, build your list!

Always provide value. This way you can get feedback, and eventually, funnel traffic to your products.

Another piece of sound advice was to make a good effort with the “About” page by telling your readers about yourself, maybe adding a photo – in fact show the readers that there is a real human being behind all this.

I hope you find this helpful.

This module centered around alex Jeffreys Profit Pulling Machine which is used to start creating a money making machine!

It is a series of web pages that added together become a sales funnel

He mentioned that websites don’t make money but the business behind the website.

    The sales funnel consists of:

    • an ebook to give away
    • a squeeze page
    • a download page
    • an OTO (one time offer) video upsell to a backend product.

2009-07-24_1226_Traffic_FunnelThis sales funnel is aimed at getting people’s name and email address by giving away an ebook, video etc

Building your list and building a relationship with that list is the most important thing here.

No list, no customers, no money!

He also touched upon the subject of outsourcing which basically means if you cannot do some aspect of the process then get someone else to do it. Time v. Money.

Easier said than done, I know, but in the beginning it is good to do things yourself if only to understand what is happening but after you earn some money, which you will, then this is something to seriously consider.

Well, I hope anybody reading has gained some insight in to the ways things are done.

Like many people I have been trying to start an online business. I have been trying for a year now and although I have some affiliate sites up I am not making a lot of progress.

I have also spent too much money buying the “latest and greatest” from the “gurus” and I now suffer from what is known as information overload. Does all this sound familiar?

However, there are a few pearls of wisdom I have learned along the way.

    1) Don’t try to reinvent the wheel – follow success.

    2) Get a mentor – all successful marketers have or have had a mentor.

    3) Focus on one thing at a time

    … and much more.

Alex Jeffreys came to my attention some time back, I watched the first coaching mentoring program which sounded like hell of a ride, and decided I had found my mentor. When the next mentoring program was announced I joined as soon as I could.

Last week I began my first coaching session with Alex Jeffrey’s “Marketing With Alex”.

The live coaching call started at midnight my time (GMT+1) so it was a question of keeping focussed as he went

through the module. I started to lose focus just after 3:00am as the two hour call was still in full flow!

Alex is definitely thorough and he stayed answering questions until everyone had had their say or queries were answered.

Thankfully, the call was recorded and within the next few days a recording of the call, the Powerpoint slides from the presentation, MP3 Audio and a module checklist was made available to the members. I’m sure students from some of the other parts of the world who couldn’t take part are grateful for that.

    I know I am.
