Like many would-be, and other internet marketers I am on a lot of lists. This equates to a lot of emails!
For a number of reasons (choose your own), I need to change my email address on these lists.
Sometimes, depending on the auto-responder being used, this is quite easily done.
However, some mails, and this includes those of many large companies, the only option is to unsubscribe.
Does this apply to your list(s)?
I frequently do not wish to unsubscribe and I try very hard to work around this, but in the end I have no choice other than to unsubscribe, so that is what I do.
As someone who is working very very hard to build a list(s) I find this strange and I can only conclude that the list owners do not care.
However if you need every person that you can add to your list (as I do) then perhaps this is something worth checking out.

Hi Dave,
I have had the same frustration, although many websites have some sort of subscriber management software that allows changes without unsubscribing. Usually you click onthe “unsubscribe/manage subscriptions” link in the email and it takes you to a place where you can change the address or cancel.
Just a thought from a fellow Alex Jefferys student.

Hello Gene,
Thanks for your comments.
I think what I was trying to do with this post is to encourage people just starting, to listen to the advice of Alex and the forum and sign up to recommended autoresponders such as Aweber or GetResponse where this problem does not exist.
I have managed to change my email address many times but this is usually with switched on internet marketers using the above autoresponders.
I’ve even managed it with mails where you have to scroll down down off the page to find the unsubscribe details
)
If other autoresponders are used I think this is well worth checking out – it is hard building a list!
BTW. I like “Pinky and the Brain” post even if I haven’t seen the show.
Dave
Thanks. I use Aweber, (I guess that puts me in the “switched on internet marketers” class) I just have not noticed the subscribe management stuff with them.

Hi Dave,
That’s a good point that you have made in your post. I hadn’t really thought about it. When i last moved email address I never gave it much thought I just resubscribed to the lists I wanted to stay on. Sometimes its the simple things that remind me I’m simple.
Best Regards

Hi Andy,
Thanks for comment.

Strange to look at things from the marketer’s point of view. Alex’s training must be working
Dave
Hi Dave,
I am not sure I “get” your problem here. If you can no longer access a particular email address or need to change it to a different one, why don’t you just subscribe again to the mailing list you want to receive updates for with a new email address?

Hi David,
Thanks for your comment.
I don’t really have a problem here. The point I am trying to make is keep it simple. As I pointed out AWeber etc. make it simple and easy.
)
Recently I received a mail from a very well known, well respected marketer which basically said:
Don’t make it complicated, keep it simple, explain what you want, lead your customer by the hand …and so on i.e look after your list.
Average attention span is measured in seconds
When I reach the 3rd or 4th page when trying to re-subscribe to a site I am not that interested in I quickly lose interest. I am busy!
Needless to say, if it was Alex Jeffreys site then I would persist
BTW your latest traffic figures are impressive. Well done!
Dave
Hi Dave,
You wouldn’t unsubscribe if you recognised the name of the sender and associated that name with ‘value’.
Look at it this way, if we get an email form Alex, we check it out.
Good tip on setting up a totally new email account and only using that for subscribing.
Andrew.

Hi Dave,
I have read with interest your post “list Building -Unsubscribe” whilst I admit I have not had this problem directly – (Only because Only just starting out in I/M.) I have in the past had problems with changing email addresses ie advising every one of my contacts of the change. I did find one solution to this problem which your readers may find helpful !! I now use one email address only, from this email address I can redirect emails to any other email address I choose. So unless the primary email address goes pop for any reanson I am ok. If you are interested the web address is “www.Mail.com” they do charge a small annual fee but this is small compared to the hassel it saves you.
Regards Steve.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the comments and thanks for the great tip.

Dave
Hi Dave,
Great point, I never thought about this before until you brought it up. Luckily I’ve subscribed to AWeber where I believe it’s quite easy to change email details

Hi Ann Marie,
Thanks for the comment.
Yes, just one of those little things. A recent case was a marketer I quite like but can’t
move to another address as all he had was “Reply to this mail and write unsubscribe in the subject title”
duh!

David
Hey Dave
Just visiting blogs today and your’s was the first on the list. I hadn’t been to yours before. I don’t think I can add anything to all the advise and suggestions you received in regards to your post.
I will say I like your site, nice graphics, easy to navigate.
I do sympathize with the amount of email that comes our way. I am getting real good at deleting. I’ve done a little un-subscribing but I agree if you do it one by one it is time consuming.
I notice I picked up a whole lot of email traffic since I have joined giveaway sites, but you have no choice, you have to give them an email address.
Gotta go

Hey Dave,
I really like your header, did you do it yourself?
I have the same dilemma about unsubscribing from lists, but mostly because I don’t want to take a chance on missing out on that vital bit of info…lol

Hi Melanie,
First of all congratulations on your video. And what a background!
Thanks for your comment. I use Artiseer 2 at http://www.artisteer.com/ for my blog. It is a reasonable price and you can change at any time to any number of themes.
Cheers,
Dave
