Alex Jeffreys Module 4 – Social Media Traffic
Last Thursday was the latest (4th) of the Alex Jeffreys modules which was about Social Media and how to drive traffic to your blog.
Start time for me is at midnight and to make things a little more interesting we were out in the forest having a weekend family gathering (compulsory!).
So, a bit behind at the moment but the boss said no computer business this last weekend (you know how it is).
However, with the help of my old laptop and the G3 “dongle”, I managed to make contact over the high trees and join the Live Coaching call.
And I am very glad I did as the content of this call from Alex was first class.
This call was all about getting traffic using Social Media.
As we all know no traffic means no list and no list means no business, so this was definitely worth listening to.
First point made was that blogs do attract Traffic.
Suggested ways to build traffic are :-
- Show an interest in people
- tell them what you are doing
- tell people how to do it
- provide good content
- leave comments on other blogs
- provide value on other peoples’ blogs and get some of their traffi
- JVs
- get involved with Twitter
- use Youtube
- review other blogs.
Alex used the analogy of oil rigs and fish. Man made structures(oil rigs) attract small fish, which in turn attract bigger fish, which also attract…………….and so o
This was used to explain that traffic building starts small and builds up over time.
This is started by taking a look at other blogs in your niche and making VALUE comments. By adding your signature to your comments, which should include a link to your blog, you will also receive traffic in return, if your comments are VALUE COMMENTS.
You can also add comments to the “big blogs” as well but you must, yes you’ve got it, add VALUE otherwise your comment will just be deleted.

Hello Dave
I just dropped by to view your blog.I see your ahead of me and basically having the same problem of keeping up. I was behind setting up my blog and so I my postings are skewed from the actual dates.
The site looks good, I am picking up ideas from all the sites I visit.
Just one observation, you ought to review Matts WordPress video and the bit about shrinking the picture in the sidebar.Alex’s List Building has gone off the edge of the page.
I just tried using Roboform to fill in my details above, the only problem I found is that Roboform filled in the same information in your other boxes on this page.
Looks like I will have to keep filling in my details manually.
Regards
David

Hello David,
Thanks for your comments and also for the heads up. I use Mozilla Firefox and the blog is fine there but a quick check
of IE shows what you are saying. I’ve shrunk it once so not sure if it will go again but all part of the learning curve!
I use Roboform myself so I need to look at that as well. Thanks for telling me – much appreciated.
As to falling behind the leaders I have decided not to worry about it and do my best as and when I can.
Regards,
Dave
Hey Dave
Thanks for coming by blog, yes that last module was very good as always, Alex really nailed it with that oil rig analogy that just got me pump up to make this work and as I thought about it it just made since, if you leave good content={fishfood} on your blog={oil rig} that people={sharks} would come buy.
Great post Dave

Hi Alexis,
Thanks for the comment.
I have actually seen the activity around an oil rig and it is true. You don’t want to go swimming there (another analogy?)
Dave
Hi Dave,
How are you doing? hope your weekend was a good one. cannot add much to what you have said, I am trying to put this into practice as we speak. have taken a screen shot to prove no traffic at moment so when this starts to work I can show and whats more prove it to my doubting mates. If you have a minute or two have a look at my post on “The Importance of Blog Commenting.” You may find this free download useful – it could save you time.
Regards Steve.

Hey Dave
I think we’re on to something here. Alex has definitely given us some golden nuggets to work with. Glad to see that the oil rig hopping is working well for everyone.
Thanks for the comment by the way, the whole process becomes a lot more simple when you think about it like that!

Hi Dave
Great site, but your site takes very long time to load up, I don’t know whether this is my problem or your hosting company.
Great to see you break down the summary of module 4, I’m way way behind and it benefit me to read your post.
If you can write about the process and the result you’ve got from these differnet all the channel. That will be a great help. and I believe people will come back to see your results.
Regards
Kin
Hi Kin,
Thanks for your helpful comment.
I uploaded the site in Firefox in 8 secs and IE in 2 secs so this morning seems OK. However, it does get slow sometimes I admit and I assumed it was my hosting company.
I will get more details of my upload times and talk to them as they are very helpful.
I am quite a long way behind myself but it is not a race and I am not worrying about it – still have posts to write. Working on it
Regards,
Dave
Thanks again
