Create HD Quality Video For YouTube

I recently wrote about using Jing for screen capture  - “Use Jing And Capture Anything You See On Your Computer Screen and Share”

TechSmith, the makers of Jing have been improving their product and you can now create HD screencasts, very easily, and upload that HD quality direct to YouTube.

This is so easy and takes away most of the technical problems of getting a video on YouTube, and of course your blog, website etc.

This is for users of Jing Pro but as I mentioned before is only $14.95 a year.

You can watch the very short video about this here:

As before, this is not an affiliate link (TechSmith don’t do affiliate).

I like this and I hope you find it useful.

Old, But Still Good Advice

This is an article I saw today on Martin Avis’s  Kickstart Daily which I thought would be useful:

“Today’s Power Thought

Sometime around the year 1930 an up-and-coming management
consultant by the name of Ivy Lee approached Charles Schwab, the
head of American Bethlehem Steel.

To cut a long story short, Lee told Schwab that he could improve
the efficiency of the company by 50%.

Suspicious, Schwab asked what it would cost.

Lee said that he would give Schwab the secret and after putting
it in action among the company’s executives for one month, Schwab
could pay Lee whatever he thought it was worth.

It sounded like a good deal so Lee handed Schwab a small piece of
paper.

On it was written the following:

“Write down the most important things you have to do tomorrow.
Now, number them in the order of their true importance. The first
thing tomorrow morning, start working on an item Number 1, and
stay with it until completed. Then take item Number 2 the same
way. Then Number 3, and so on. Don’t worry if you don’t complete
everything on the schedule. At least you will have completed the
most important projects before getting to the less important
ones.”

Schwab thought that the advice was simplistic, but a deal was a
deal. He circulated the note around the company.

Four weeks later, Ivy Lee received a check for $25,000 – over
$275,000 in today’s money.

If one of America’s toughest businessmen valued that ‘simplistic’
advice so highly, don’t you think it would be worth having a go
yourself?

This is part of the free twice-weekly Kickstart Today by Martin Avis – well recommended.
No, this is not an affiliate link just something to share  :)

How To Speed Up Video

We are told that video is the way to go, and I have to say that I struggle to find the time to listen to all the available or required videos.

Now there is another excellent video (Frank Kern, John Reese and Anthony Robbins) which has just appeared (38 mins) and I really want to listen to it. Must find some time!

As with most people I can read faster than I can listen so it does tend to get frustrating at times and I find that my mind starts to wander even if I am listening to something very interesting.

Don’t get me wrong video is perfect for showing how-to subjects and amply prove that a picture is worth a thousand words. Video has made learning a lot easier.

Not too long ago I came across this software which is very good and I have found it very useful so I thought I would mention this here so that it might help some other readers. The software allows you to speed up or slow down (to make notes) videos whenever you want.

This is: http://www.enounce.com/

This is not an affiliate link so feel free to check it out. You can also start with a 7-day free trial.

This is also interesting as just a few days ago  I was listening to a webinar by Rich Schefren (Guru to the gurus,) and one of the things he mentioned as one of the requirements for building your business was learning speed reading/listening/watching.

I hope this is useful.

There are major security issues with WordPress 2.8.0 to 2.8.3 which allow anyone, not just hackers, to change your admin password very easily.

WordPress 2.8.4 was created to solve this problem.

Many people will have ignored the upgrade link or put it off for another day (and I am as guilty of this as anyone) but in this particular instance, upgrade as soon as possible.

If you have a more recent version of WordPress you will be able to do this automatically, however don’t forget to back up first!

My earlier post about “How To Back up Your WordPress Blog” may be useful to you or you can find more information at http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

I hope this helps someone.

List building – unsubscribing

Like many would-be, and other internet marketers I am on a lot of lists. This equates to a lot of emails!

For a number of reasons (choose your own), I need to change my email address on these lists.
Sometimes, depending on the auto-responder being used, this is quite easily done.

However, some mails, and this includes those of many large companies, the only option is to unsubscribe.

Does this apply to your list(s)?

I frequently do not wish to unsubscribe and I try very hard to work around this, but in the end I have no choice other than to unsubscribe, so that is what I do.

As someone who is working very very hard to build a list(s) I find this strange and I can only conclude that the list owners do not care.

However if you need every person that you can add to your list (as I do) then perhaps this is something worth checking out.

Further to my last tips post I thought I would recommend a useful piece of software.

The software is Jing, which is a Techsmith product which is free to download. I quote from their site which says that :

“The concept of Jing is the always ready program that instantly captures and shares images and video …from your computer to anywhere”.

It sits at the top of your screen (or anywhere else you care to drag it) like a small, pale sun and is completely unobtrusive. Because it is “always on”you can instantly capture images and video.

You can select a window, part of a window, or you can click and drag cross-hairs to select a custom area.

You can capture an image or video (5 minutes) and add arrows, text and highlights, narrate your video, save it, copy it and then send it wherever you like.

It is quick and simple and I use it constantly and for many different purposes.

I like it!

You can upgrade to Jing Pro at any time and the cost is a $14.95 per year and this will give better video results

Again, this information is freely given to my readers, free to download and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Take a look here and try it:

How To Save Money On Ink Cartridges

One of the costs that really bothers me is the price of print cartridges and the number of times I have to replace them.

I have seen people mention $25 for a cartridge, and upwards in the US.

I wish! Twice that price that here.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, I came across a tip a couple of days ago which extends

the life of your cartridge by about 3 times but which also prints a lot faster.

You will hear new sounds from your printer!

I am sure some people are aware of this, but the tip is as follows:

When you wish to print, you click on File, then Print.

This box then appears:

2009-07-14_1459

Click on properties, as shown.

2009-07-14_1501

You will then find that it is set to “General Everyday Printing” by default.Click the drop down menu and you will

see an option for “Fast Economical Printing”. Click on this.

2009-07-14_1503

Now click “OK” and you are ready to go.

You will have to do this every time as far as I can see .

This will vary depending on both your system and computer but you should be able to find your way around following these instructions.

I have tried this for a few days and I have found that on my system B&W looks perfect, colors slightly faded.

I think this is a great tip for me. Obviously, if you are printing your best family photographs you will not use this.

I hope this helps somebody to reduce their online costs.

Update:

I have now found that you can set your printer to stay on “Fast economical printing” by doing the following:

Go to your “Control Panel”, click on “Printers and Other Hardware” (this may vary with your system) and go to your installed printer(s).

Highlight your printer and you should see a left side bar with the title “Printer Tasks”.

Click on “Select Printer Preferences” and there you can set your preferences as default.

This may vary with your operating system but this should give you an idea of the way to set your preferences.
